Hon. Todd Mackintosh

Hon. Todd E. Mackintosh (Ret.) served as a county court magistrate for six years for the City and County of Denver.  During his tenure, in addition to numerous criminal proceedings, he presided over hundreds of civil trials to the court, including: construction defect claims; professional malpractice claims; landlord/tenant disputes; HOA and neighbor disputes; tort claims including automobile accidents; employment disputes; real estate transaction disputes; bad faith claims; airline service disputes; and, a variety of general contract disputes.

Prior to his appointment, Magistrate Mackintosh had a diverse thirty-year law practice.  He started his practice at Brownstein Hyatt Farber and Madden (Shreck), where, as an associate, he worked in the civil litigation department for three years.  He then served as deputy district attorney for the 18th judicial district, where he prosecuted 50 jury trials and 100s of trials and hearings to the court.  After his stint as a prosecutor, he founded and managed a successful law office management company, providing law office management solutions and consulting to law firms throughout Colorado.  After selling his company, he went back to the practice of law and served Of Counsel at Wood Ris & Hames and, after seven years there, as Of Counsel at Hatch Ray Conant.  In his many years of private practice, he first focused on complex and general civil litigation, construction litigation involving both owners and contractors, landlord/tenant disputes, employment matters, and personal injury claims.  He also represented select parties in domestic relation matters, dealing with all aspects of divorce proceedings, modifications of maintenance and child support disputes.  He litigated cases in county, state and the federal courts of Colorado.  For the last fifteen years of his private practice, he enjoyed a robust trust and estate practice, drafting wills and trusts, durable and medical powers of attorney, and livings wills; he also represented numerous personal representatives in formal and informal estate proceedings.    Lastly, he served as legal counsel for the Colorado Self Storage Association and its many members across the state of Colorado, which work involved corporate entity formation, the sale and purchase of real estate and businesses, and contract formation, interpretation and revision.

Magistrate Mackintosh is a firm believer in the mediation process. In 2020, he implemented and  has since maintained a highly successful mandatory mediation resolution process in his civil court.  He has served as a CLE panelist presenting to other judicial officers on the merits and efficiencies of sound mediation processes, as well as CLE programs concerning ethical considerations to practicing mediators and attorneys.  In private practice, he participated in a great many mediations as counsel for a party over his decades-long career.  Informed by his experiences as both a magistrate and private counsel, Magistrate Mackintosh understands the benefits of resolving disputes through mediation and avoiding the challenges of protracted litigation.

Magistrate Mackintosh received consistently high accolades from both county court and district court judicial officers for his docket management, courtroom demeanor, work ethic and focus on procedural fairness for all parties in civil disputes.  In addition, he was respected for his people skills, pre-trial preparation, consistency, and ability to simplify and effectively communicate concerning complex legal matters.  He looks forward to utilizing these skills in arbitration proceedings, special master cases and mediations.
